A powerful visioning process by Rod & Brooks Newton

2022 is here, and we’d like to share the New Year’s Visioning Practice that we have done each year for the past 35 years. We have been pretty amazed and grateful for how powerful and predictable it has been at making our lives better—and sometimes a lot better!

It’s like resetting our circuit breakers as we enter each new year. It is a testament to how powerful conscious intention can be, especially when combined with skillful action steps and receptivity to guidance.

The Benefits of the Practice

Our yearly Visioning Practice helps us to:

* Learn more about our strengths and weaknesses so we are better prepared to give our gifts this year 
* Let go of the past year and move forward with more freedom 
* Get our priorities straight for the new year 
* Connect with our inner guidance 
* Access the inner resources we will need for the new year 
* Realize and appreciate how much we have to be grateful for 
* Connect with each other as we do the process together

If you already have a practice like this, we hope you get some new ideas to improve your practice.

We are always tweaking our methods, although the basic principles remain the same. If you haven’t done anything like this, try it out and let us know how it works for you!

Our core practice can be done in as little as 20-30 minutes, and often we start with a session of that duration and then sleep on it. But then the next day, we dive deeper to mine the inner resources we have grown to rely on.

Giving Your Gifts and Learning Your Life Lessons

We believe that one of our main lessons in life is to learn to use our strengths to overcome our weaknesses. Each year, life shows us more about what our real strengths are, and what our current weaknesses are.This gives us great opportunities to “up our game” in our life.

Step 4: Integrate and Close

Complete the process by writing anything you are grateful for that came out of the process—any new perspectives, energy shifts, or ideas — or just being grateful for the power of intention and the power of letting go.

You can also write a thank you note, thanking whatever unseen forces might be helping you.

Step 3: Consciously Create Your 2022

1 - Feel the space created inside you from letting go of 2021, and get a general sense of what you want to fill that space with.

2 - Close your eyes and imagine the best possible year next year. Imagine being deeply fulfilled giving your gifts and learning whatever life has to teach you. Then get more specific about what is really important to you at this time in your life.

3 - Begin to feel your inner guidance on what wants to happen, and what is yours to do this upcoming year. Feel the confluence between what you want and what is yours to do. Then open your eyes and write it down so you can review this - as well as your strengths - monthly.

The Practice

Step 1: Preparation and Intention Setting

Center yourself and get present by taking a few deep breaths, noticing what you see, hear, smell, and any body sensations. Notice your feelings, your general mood, and your thoughts. Then let go of any lingering thoughts, feelings, or tension that you are ready to let go of, so you can bring yourself fully to the process.

Step 2: Review and Release 2021

1 - Write down everything you liked about 2021. Then close your eyes and feel any and all feelings that come up. Feel fully whatever you are feeling.

2 - Write everything you didn’t like about 2021. Close your eyes and feel all the feelings. Breathe to create space for the feelings, and make it OK that you are feeling whatever you are feeling right now. Notice any tendencies to numb or try to get rid of or change the feelings you are feeling.

3 - Write what you have learned from both the things you liked and the things you didn’t like in 2021. Then close your eyes and imagine opening yourself to fully absorb all the life lessons from 2021— consciously or subconsciously.

4 - Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses. These can change as we learn and grow on our life journey.

5 - Finish with some form of letting go ritual, such as burning or crumpling up the pages of what didn't work, and/or taking a deep breath and breathing out any residual attachments to the past year. Then get up, shake it off, stretch and get ready for the next step.

Step 5: Watch the Magic Unfold!

Life Energy is both magical and miraculous. If we are not experiencing magic and miracles in our life, it is because we have lost our connection to our Life Energy. This New Year's Visioning Process is a great way to reconnect with our Life Energy by revisiting what matters most to us, our purpose in life and our strengths and gifts!
